African Union of the Blind (AFUB) is a continental non-governmental organisation (NGO) of national organisations/ associations of and for blind and partially sighted people in Africa. We were established in October 1987, in Tunis, Tunisia, under the auspices of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now African Union (AU).
This is the coalition of three international organizations whose primary focus is blindness and the related issues associated with it: prevention of blindness, education of blind people, and access to society for blind people via training and rehabilitation.
The African Union of the Blind is a member of the Vision Alliance along with IAPB (International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness) and the ICEVI (International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment). We work together as a coalition to advance the standards of people who are blind and partially sighted and to educate others how to prevent blindness.
