In partnership with SightSavers, our board and staff got together from 11 to 13 April prior to the board meeting and challenged each other as we developed an action plan to reposition AFUB and ensure we have the right structures and the enabling environment at all levels for an AFUB that lives up to the expectations of its member organisations. Throughout the workshop and the board meeting, our focus was how to make of AFUB an organisation that is all the more poised to play its rightful role on the regional and international fronts as we strive to realize our vision of an Africa where we all enjoy equal rights, social inclusion, and full participation in development.
Jonathan Dudding of the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA:UK) and who has been collaborating with Sightsavers and other DPOs in Africa was there to tease our brains and help us keep the big picture in view at all times during the workshop. Gertrude O. Fefoame, the Africa Social Inclusion Advisor at SightSavers, and who has previously sat on the AFUB board, also shared her insights with us at the workshop.
