With 13 AFUB member organizations, the Southern Africa Region is the largest in terms of the number of organizations it comprises.

The region boasts of strong organizations, such as the South Africa National Council for the Blind (SANCB), the Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB), the Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Mozambique (ACAMO). The Botswana Association of the Blind, Lesotho National League of Visually Impaired Persons, and Swaziland Association of Visually Impaired Persons (SAVIP) Aare comparatively well-established.

The two organizations in Zimbabwe were greatly affected by the dim political and economic situation in the country. Angola is another country where the war had greatly undermined the work of our member organizations. A newly joined member of AFUB, the Angola Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted (ANCA) is still in its embryonic stage.
