The Ghana Blind Union, a merger between the Ghana Association of the Blind (GAB) and Ghana Society for the Blind (GSB), stands out as the largest member organization in the region.

Comprising of nine organizations in eight countries, the region is home to the Association of the Visually Impaired of Cape Verde (ADEVIC), The Christian Association of the Blind (CAB), the Gambia Organisation of the Visually Impaired (GOVI), Ghana Blind Union, the Guinean Association for the Rehabilitation and Insertion of the Blind in Guinea-Bissau (AGRICE), the Liberia National Association of the Blind (LNAB), Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), the National Organisation of the Blind in Equatorial Guinea (ONCIGE), the Sierra Leone Association of the Blind (SLAB).

AFUB has been implementing a wide array of projects in this region ranging from women leadership seminars, to youth empowerment projects, to HIV/AIDS. SLAB in Sierra Leone, GUB in Ghana, and CAB in Liberia are the most active organizations. NAB of Nigeria, still in formation stages, has great potential to stand out as a vibrant organization.

Our freshly admitted member, the National Organisation of the Blind of Equatorial Guinea, together with our Portuguese-speaking Organizations in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde will participate in our new initiative in partnership with The Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted (NABP).

This region boasts of many active leaders in the disability movement: Emma Parker and Noah Kabakeh of Sierra Leone, who previously served in the board of AFUB, currently dedicating their efforts to implementing a comprehensive community-based rehabilitation project in Sierra Leone; Beyan Kota, the Deputy-Regional Officer for this region and president of the Christian Association of the Blind (CAB); David Okon and Esther A. Awu of Nigeria, respectively AFUB West Africa Zone-I  Regional Officer and AFUB-Secretary-General, Yaw Debra and Cecilia Bartholomew of Ghana, respectively AFUB Vice-President and AFUB Women's Representative for the region.
